Revoke Authority FAQ
What is Revoke Authority?
Revoke Authority is a function to permanently give up specific permissions for a token. Once revoked, permissions cannot be restored.
What permissions can be revoked?
Three permissions can be revoked:
| Permission | Description |
|---|---|
| Freeze Authority | Permission to freeze or unfreeze token holder accounts |
| Mint Authority | Permission to mint additional tokens |
| Update Authority | Permission to change token metadata |
Why revoke permissions?
Revoking permissions is used to build trust with investors. For example, revoking mint authority proves that the token supply is fixed and there is no inflation risk. Revoking freeze authority guarantees that no one can arbitrarily freeze accounts.
Can I restore after revoking?
No, revoking permissions is permanent and cannot be undone. Once recorded on the blockchain, it cannot be restored by any means, so decide carefully.
